Partnership Information Network

The ‘Once for Scotland’ Workforce Policies Programme is refreshing the extant Partnership Information Network (PIN) policies in order to deliver single, standardised policies and supporting documents which are accessible, simplified, and person-centered.

Developed nationally in partnership with NHSScotland employers, trade unions and the Scottish Government. The policies and supporting documents together form the standard for workforce policies that apply to all NHSScotland employees. These will be used consistently and seamlessly across the NHS in Scotland with no local variation.

The programme of work was established to refresh the PIN Policies in phases. From 1 March 2020, the foundation policies are effective for all staff and managers. These policies replace the existing PIN Policies and any local NHS Employer policy.

Foundation policies:

An NHSScotland Workforce Policies Investigation Process has been developed to outline the investigation process and support decision-making for NHSScotland Workforce Policy cases.

Phase 2 of the ‘Once for Scotland’ Workforce Policies Programme will refresh the remaining Partnership Information Network (PIN) policies. Until such time as these are approved, the below PIN Policies and related NHS Employers policies will continue to be applied.

PIN were developed nationally in partnership between NHSScotland employers, trade unions / professional organisations and Scottish Government. They set a minimum standard which Boards' local employment policies must either meet or exceed.

The section on Attendance currently covered by the Managing Health at Work (MHAW) PIN has been refreshed as part of the NHSScotland Attendance Policy, the remainder of the MHAW PIN will be refreshed under Phase 2.
